Choosing the right mattress

Choosing a mattress is a big choice, it’s where you’ll be resting your head for the next 7-10 years! If you’re looking to upgrade your mattress in 2025, here are some things to consider before you make the purchase. The average mattress cost is $800 on the low end and $5,000 on the high end so it’s important that we make the right choice when purchasing. If you’re looking to upgrade your whole sleep set up, we also have blog posts on replacing sheets and pillowcases

Size

Choosing the size of your new mattress is the easy part. Choose one that matches your current bedframe or if you’re upgrading check out this mattress size guide to help you choose.

Type of mattress

Here’s where things get a little trickier. It’s time to choosing the type of mattress and there are a lot to choose from. Although there are many many types of mattresses, most fall into three broader categories: innerspring, foam or hybrid. Innerspring mattresses have coils or springs inside, foam mattresses are made with layers of foam (there are many different foam materials) and hybrid mattresses use a combination of both. The lowdown is: foam mattresses move around less, innerspring are cooler and hybrid offers a good compromise between the two.

Firmness

Make sure you’re getting a mattress that isn’t too soft, too firm but is just right. Depending on how you sleep and your body type, you’ll choose a mattress that is somewhere between extra soft and extra firm. Most people opt for a medium to medium firm mattress but your needs may vary. This is where trying out a mattress in person is really helpful.
